Bombchu Link This album makes me feel strong pulls of somberness and remorse, but a sense of maturity to it, as if it's but a distant scar now and am ready to move on.

The choice of slow moving cellos is very welcome on this album and makes the full piece feel full. Favorite track: First Time Underwater.

ajatuslapsi One of the best classical ambient records this year. Definitely recommended. Favorite track: Fire Current.
Lost Tribe Sound

Lost Tribe Sound Martin is among a handful of rustic modern classical artists out there, unafraid of a less polished sound, providing a sort of a barrel-aged timbre to his instrumentation. More so, his music makes my heart swell like few others do! Voted one of my best of 2018, liked it so much I got the vinyl and CD. Favorite track: Anticipation of Loss.

An aged cello, with a hint of banjo, concertina & ukulele bitters, shaken over some guitar cubes & garnished with singing bowls & voice with some subtle processing rubbed lightly around the glass rim are the ingredients for Aaron Martin’s beguiling new contemporary classical, ambient cocktail on Preserved Sound. An LP sure to be on a lot of lists in 11 months time.
Spleen Cringe

Spleen Cringe Whilst I don’t think I’ve heard an album I don’t like from Aaron Martin, this one of his best yet. He is carving out a niche somewhere between modern classical and old, weird Americana, somewhere between the front porch and the laptop. Every track has a lovely, lustrous patina of carefully polished timelessness. A true American Primitive. Favorite track: Depth of a Glance.

Jonathan One of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. Aaron Martin has created a perfect blend of dark soulful classical, ambient, and Americana folk music. This is like nothing I've ever heard. A spacey, mournful musical masterpiece that even fans of psychedelica or Rock can enjoy. Brilliant. Favorite track: Anticipation of Loss.

about

Aaron Martin’s album "A Room Now Empty" sees him returning to the memory-based recordings of previous albums such as "Almond", "River Water" and "Chautauqua", where layered meanings in the music and titles don’t allow a single clear-cut reading of the music.

“A Room Now Empty is similar to the concept of Day Has Ended where Christoph Berg and I created music to encompass the passing of a day, but stretched out for the passing of a lifetime or at least a portion of a lifetime,” says Aaron.

Using cello, electric guitar, bass, roll up piano, banjo, concertina, acoustic guitar, voice, ukulele, singing bowls and lap steel, "A Room Now Empty" keeps the same intimacy and directness of Aaron’s previous albums, with a slightly more processed sound creating distance within the music.
